May your imagination know

The grace of perfect danger,

To reach beyond imitation,

And the wheel of repetition,

Deep into the call of all

The unfinished and unsolved

Until the veil of the unknown yields

And something original begins

To stir toward your senses

And grow stronger in your heart

— John O’Donohue

“For the Artist at the Start of the Day”

Hello!

My name is Jess Sawall, and I am a grad student at the University of Delaware pursuing a master’s degree in Wind Conducting, and hold a position as a teaching assistant for the athletic bands.

With over a decade of experience performing and teaching both concert and marching bands, I have inspired young musicians and taught important leadership skills through music education and the marching arts.

As a music educator at both middle and high school levels over the last five years, I have developed a passion for the inclusive and supportive environment that music classrooms provide, and have continued to pursue a masters degree in this field because I believe in the positive force that music education is.

Who am I?

I am a trumpet player, teacher, conductor, and life-time learner from Central New Jersey. I currently reside in Northern Delaware where I am pursuing a Masters Degree in Wind Conducting at the University of Delaware.

My career career has been driven by my passion for music and the belief that music is for everyone. Music the universal vehicle for connection, and music education at its core aids in being able to create and engage with these connections in a more meaningful way.

I have pursued this career to aid in not just student’s musicianship and proficiency on their instrument, but to foster deeper appreciation for music and all that this art form does to connect us in our world.
